Coming to Alberta from out of province? Sign up for ATCO Energy (and avoid the Rate of Last Resort!)

Welcome to sunny Alberta! We're so glad to have you as our new neighbour. Here's what you need to know about setting up a new energy plan in Alberta. Here in Alberta, we have energy retailers, distributors, and the Rate of Last Resort.

Energy retailers

A retailer (like ATCO Energy) is the energy company you will work with to choose your plan, pay your bill and more. Feel free to compare your options and make an informed decision. ATCO Energy offers the best customer service, simple billing and great rates.

Distributors

Distributors transport and deliver electricity and natural gas from their source (power plant, gas pipeline) to your neighbourhood. You don't control which energy distributor works in your neighbourhood.

Rate of Last Resort

The RoLR (Rate of Last Resort) is the default rate you pay if you don't choose an energy retailer. If you've recently arrived in Alberta and started paying the RoLR, you're probably not getting the best deal and service available.

Please don’t. Shutting off your power could cause serious damage.  Let us know your moving dates and we’ll connect with your distributor to stop services at your old address.
